This is a collection of Cumbrian life stories on 52 CDs made between 2012 and 2016. The interviews were collected by the late Roy Martin, a former Border TV cameraman. As you listen to the interviews with people about work and life in Cumbria and read through the comprehensive documentation for each interview, it becomes clear that the collection was a labour of love.
Roy interviewed several of his former colleagues about the history of Border TV and a wide variety of local people in and around Carlisle including several shopkeepers, a farmer, a fairground worker, a bus driver and an auctioneer. Often interviewees reflect on their childhood memories.
The full length interviews will be available at Carlisle Archive Service in due course.
You can read some descriptions online at the British Library’s Sound and Moving Image catalogue. The British Library collection reference is UAP028. The local reference is DX 2102.
Can someone. anyone, please, tell me where the original Alston Moor recordings are kept? I was part of our Historical Society and helped with transcripts. No-one seems to have the cassettes! We are now publishing a huge range of local material, photos, press cuttings, articles and oral history clippings- but haven’t been able to trace the original Carol Kibbitas “Made for Alston Moor Historical Society” tracks. (short cut to our digital archive is: amhs.org.uk )
