The Royal Albert Hospital Oral History Archive project documented the residential and working culture of a former large Victorian long stay hospital for people with learning difficulties.
The Community Service Volunteers (CSV) Heritage Lottery Funded oral history project was based in Lancaster and managed by Nigel Ingham of the Open University Social History of Learning Disability (SHLD) Research Group.
The project, which was funded between 2005 and 2007, produced a website and a major exhibition, as well as providing critical input into nurse training at the University of Cumbria, the history curriculum at Lancaster University and course work at Central Lancaster High School.
This collection also includes earlier interviews collected at the hospital by Nigel Ingham and his colleagues from 1987 onwards
The recordings are held by Lancashire Archives. The British Library reference is UAP032. The local reference is RAH.
