Mrs. F interview question on women’s roles (MSOH/758(2)_e05)

Interviewer: [00:00:00] Was this your first experience, really, of women exploring women’s roles, you know, kind of women…?

Mrs. F: [00:00:09] I think it was. Yes. Apart from discussing it amongst my own female friends and acquaintances, which over the years in politics one does anyway. But I think it was the first formal sort of set up where I listened to and discussed matters affecting women’s liberation.

Interviewer: [00:00:30] I see.

Mrs. F: [00:00:30] We heard about the American women, what had gone on with Betty Friedan and her followers and so on. Mind you, I don’t think Betty Friedan is a feminist in the sense that she wishes to exclude men. I don’t think she means that either. I think a lot of women have got to be clearer than they are about what they mean by Women’s Liberation.
